Carlsbad Caverns (Bottomless pit)

At first the name of it made me feel like it was really bottomless. But I heard and read the information, and it’s not. When I looked down it was really deep. It is only 140 ft down. I was so tired so I almost leaned over the bars. I thought I saw the bottom but I guess I didn’t. I wonder, if it’s not bottomless, how come you call it the bottomless pit? Well the adventure was the best field trip ever. I’m looking forward to going again!

Could you see the bottom? I couldn’t. Imagine being in the caverns when they were first discovered and there wasn’t any lighting except the torch you brought in with you…it would appear to be bottomless. It still appears to be bottomless; however, people have been able to determine its depth.
