New Way to Change Your Theme

July 31st, 2008 · 3 Comments

One of the changes with WPMU I didn’t tell you about a couple of days ago has to do with the themes page. Before when you picked Design in the admin section, there would be a long webpage showing you a every theme that was available to you. That was not a good thing to have a bunch of students in the computer lab loading over a 100 themes previews! Now it’ll show you only 15 at a time, and you’ll have to navigate through the pages to see them all.

Another change is when you choose a theme you want to take a look at, you’ll get a lightbox preview of exactly how your blog will look. It’ll have your title on there will some of your latest posts. At this point, you can either dismiss the preview without changing anything or you can activate the new theme.

Adding an Image to a Post

July 29th, 2008 · No Comments

Here are step-by-step directions on how to put an image in a post.

Put cursor in front of the paragraph where you want your image to appear

Click the star shape

Click Choose files to upload

Select the file of your image, then click Select

Wait for the file to upload

Add information

Give the image a title. If you want some text to appear below the picture when it appears on your blog, type that in the caption box - but don’t make it too long. If you’d like to put more detail, you can put that in the description box.

Alignment and Size

In the Alignment section, you’re going to decide where you want your image to appear in the paragraph. I want my image on the right side and the text on the left side, so I clicked the button in front of Right. In the Size section, I choose if I want the picture full size, medium size or small. It’ll take up too much space and the reader will be able to see the picture in its full size by clicking on the picture in your blog anyway.

When you’re finished, you can now Insert into Post.

You’re Done (Maybe)

If you have more to write, enter in more text. Otherwise, press Publish.

WordPress MU 2.6

July 29th, 2008 · No Comments

Well, I just got done upgrading the Edgemere Blogs website to WordPress MU 2.6. It’s not a huge change, but you’ll see a few changes here and there.

The biggest change I’ve seen is that you can now log-in with the WordPress iPhone app. That’s right I’m typing this from my iPod Touch and boy, is it taking a long time!

A couple of other changes: You’ll now see revisions at the bottom of post pages so you can see your changes and revert to an earlier version if you wish. In Firefox, you’ll see a turbo link in the upper right corner. If you click that, you’ll be prompted to install Google Gears. That’s supposed to speed up the admin side of your blog. It’s not for public computers though, so we won’t be using that in school. I think the photo gallery has been improved as well.

As with any upgrade, let me know if you see anything strange with your site.

Adding a Photo Gallery

July 10th, 2008 · 7 Comments

Here I show you how to add a photo gallery to your post as I did to this one about my trip to San Antonio. Remember if you want to add one to your blog, go ahead but remember to not put any names in your photo descriptions or have yourself being the primary focus of too many of the photos.
