My mom is one of the teachers here at Edgemere. It’s kind of weird having to call her Ms.Baker  all the time. It’s fun having her as a teacher here too because if I need help with homework she”ll know what I’m doing and help me with. It’s also fun because you don’t have to worry about her being somewhere  else .

Some times it’s hard having her as a teacher because if you win an award or get really good grades or have a special ability to do something, other people think it’s because my mom works here . Sometimes its fun sometimes its not but I think its awesome that my mom works here and I get to be next to her all day every day. It’s kind of embarrassing  because my mom will tell her kids some things that I don’t want other people to know, and then my friend’s will come up to me and tell me things that she had said and I’ll turn red which is also embarrbassing. But even though she says things that are really embarrassing sometimes hopefully my mom will stay one of the language arts teacher  for a long time. When she applied she was going to apply for the assistant principle but she decided to go for 6th grade reading teacher and got the job. That’s when I was in 5th grade and now she’s my teacher so it’s good and I like her as my teacher.

My class and I have been studying the early explorers , and I got to study  the Maya Indians! They are really interesting because they had a tough past, but they got their selves through it. Did you know that the Mayas used to sacrifice themselves or their family? They did that because they wanted to make their gods happy  but it wasn’t just one god they wanted to worship but more than at least seven. They had a sun god , a mountain god , a sky god , and more  (they even had a corn God). The Maya Indians got attacked by soldiers just like the Aztecs (another Indian tribe.) The Aztecs got attacked because they were also sacrificing their people to make their gods happy. People thought they were savages and killed a lot of them off, but of course if they killed the Indians wouldn’t that make them savages to? The Maya Indians are still alive today, and they remember their ancestors struggling through that tough time being attacked, sacrificing themselves and loved ones and think how great full they are to have such a good life now and hopefully worshiping the one true god. If your wondering were they live you could probably  guess. They don’t live here, they live in Mexico or closer to the end of  Mexico in Central America and maybe could be found here too.

Ladies and gentlemen the president  of the United States! The inauguration of Barack Obama was interesting because it made big history. He is the first  African American a lot of people watched the inauguration and some people may have thought that Obama messed up, but it wasn’t him the person that was telling him what to say said it wrong one of the words was out of order. He wasn’t shirr if he should say it the wrong way or the right way. He has two daughters named Sasha and Malia and his wife’s name is Michelle. They had a lot of speeches and musical band’s. The new vice-president is Biden {I don’t know his first name} he didn’t mess up but may have said it wrong since the guy made Barack mess up.

10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4,3, 2, 1 Happy New Year!! Everyone yelled, we were at my aunt’s house singing karaoke and eating steak soup . Now I know what your thinking – karaoke? Me? Really? But I really did sing (with my cousin, of course). We sang Hannah Montana songs and then when we finished singing those songs, we sang the songs from the movie CARS. My sister even sang songs most of them from Disney princess or Dora. We all had a great time and after we all said Happy New Year!, I spent the night with my cousins, and we woke up at 10:00. That’s a new record for me. Then my mom came to pick me up and we went to see Bedtime Stories then she dropped me back off at my aunt’s house and we went bowling after a long day. I can’t wait for it to happen again next year.

Why? Why? Why? Why? Why do they make me so people can kiss under me? It’s so gross! Why can’t it be the people hanging from the wall or door and the mistletoe kissing under them? How would they feel about that? Man do I wish I could be a human for once then I could see what it would be like. Whoosh whoosh, hey whats happening I’m turning into a human being? What was that? Hey there’s a note? In my pocket, it says to meet me by the mistletoe? I wonder who wrote it? Maybe it’s the boy of my dreams. As I look up I can see I’m already by the mistletoe. Smooch! The boy came up to me and kissed me! As soon as that happened I saw that I should like myself for who I am and not for who I wish to be… yeah I am back to mistletoe again and I am glad. Well I guess its back to another year in the box.

Have you ever felt lonely, like there’s an empty spot in your heart? Well that’s how I feel.

You see my dad died in March on the 18. He was only 37 years old. we don’t know how {the doctors never told us}, all we know is that he was sick. My whole family had hoped that he would make it, but unfortunately that didn’t happen.

“Ugh,” my dad said when we got home from church one Sunday.

“What’s wrong?” I asked him.

“I have chills and I hurt all over.”

He was sick for a whole week. His short curly hair had turned into rough curly hair and his awesome smile was fading away. He had fever of 106. He went to work from Wednesday to Friday. I had a huge blur that he would get sicker.

My aunt picked me up from school and told me that my dad was in the hospital. All that was going on in my mind after that was ahhhhhhhhh! “Aunt ‘Reta is he going to be all right?”

“You’ve just gotta have hope,” she replied.

That weekend I was in suspense of what would happen to him. I wasn’t allowed to go to the hospital to see him but I imagined him pale with holes in him from all the cords. Monday morning I told all my friends. Tuesday morning I woke to a quiet house. My grandma was there but my mom wasn’t. When my mom got home, she told me the bad news. I guess hope is as light as a feather and as strong as a bull, but not everybody can make its powers just don’t work.

One night my dad and I were watching Harry Potter movies until midnight, then we were going to go to WalMart to get the new Harry Potter book. While we were planning this, my mom had not a single idea about it. My dad said that he would dress up as Harry and I would dress up as Hermione but that didn’t work. As we got to WalMart, we had to wait almost to the back because the line was so long, but do you know how long it took? Only about 5-10 minutes. As we got the book, I also got a free poster and a bookmark. When we got home I ran straight to bed and…zzzzzzzzz,? but my dad stayed up reading and when he went to bed, he had read like ten chapters already!? My mom was so surprised, but she got over the shock after about a day or so.

“Daddy! I yelled as he had just gotten back from Ruidoso. ?He went into the house to get a nice cool refreshing drink to make up for a long hot day at work. I thought it would be cool to get on the motorcycle to make him impressed.

What I didn’t realize though was that I was wearing shorts and it could burn me really bad and unfortunately it did. I screamed, “Daaaaddyyyyyyyyy!” ?I burned my leg.

He rushed out, picked me up and put me into the bathtub. I had to stay in there for at least an hour because it hurt so bad I had to go to the doctor to get a pad on my leg. I had to keep it on for a month and after that it was still red.

So here’s a lesson for all of us: Wear ?jeans.

All my teachers are so nice especially Mrs. Duran my homeroom teacher. She’s the writing teacher and, even though its only been a few weeks of school, she’s made me a better writer. Mrs. Vega is helping me with science and I’m getting better grades in it now. Mrs. Anchondo is helping me with math, and it used to be my worst subject, now it’s one of my best. Mrs. Empson is helping me with reading. It is also one of my best subjects, and she is helping me to keep it there. ((

She has blond hair and colors it every month with her strong blond bottle. She has expressions like I chose looks and you chose books. She always sits, eats ,and watches the telly as her hobbies . She always wears expensive close and jewelry . Mrs.Wormwood says ” I am very smart and proper as well as lady of the house.” She always makes people annoyed with her when she is dressed a certain way. Mrs. Wormwood says Matilda is an ignorant little brat and other mean things . Mrs. Wormwood is very small and chubby when it comes to her body.
