On Saturday, my mom and I went to go see the magnificent movie Twilight. The only thing I have to say about it is….. wow. From the very beginning of the movie, I was amazed. How much detail was put into this movie. After I watched it, the only part I mostly remembered the part when Edward had to suck out the venom, but he continued to suck the delicious blood of Bella. All in all I loved it. I loved it so much that the next day I forced my mom to buy all the books, ( Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn ). I’m so excited to see and read the next books.

As some of you may know, the movie Bridge To Terabithia had a saying that applied to ” keeping your mind wide open”. Well this film inspired me. We all need to keep our minds wide open because that will give us more possibilities. It will allow us to create a whole new world in our minds. It can even be the things around us. For example: in the movie, Jess couldn’t see the magnificent kingdom at first, but then he imagined it in his mind. All of a sudden, he sees it in the real world like Lesley sees all the time. You could imagine new creatures, plants, kingdoms, whatever. As long as you keep your mind wide open to let all your possibilities flow into your world of imagination.

For the past few days now, us students have been looking at mass and weight of different objects. At first many children have thought they were both the same thing. Well they aren’t. Mass is the amount of matter in an object – while weight is the amount of gravity pulling on an object. We were trying to prove that wherever an object is, its mass will always stay the same, but not its weight. The tools and items we used were a : triple beam balance, spring scale, toy truck, small helmet, care bear, and bottle of water. Now for this project, we used the triple beam balance for mass and the spring scale for weight. For example : on Earth the trucks mass would be 121.2 grams and weigh 110 grams = 1.078 N. But if it were on the moon or a different location with a different pressure of gravity, the weight would be somewhat lighter, but the mass would still remain the same. So wherever an object is, the weight will change, but the mass will never change.

This message is to all teachers in 6th grade……
What are you doing to us!?! Teachers, why do you keep on changing the rules that make us children suffer? We students all know that we haven’t been reaching our expectations lately, but do you really have to keep on changing the rules? I know that you teachers want us children to stay out of trouble and listen to you. I do recall that our latest rule was that if you don’t wear a belt, you receive detention. But even though you guys want the best for your students, you don’t have to continuously change the expectations and rules. As all of you try your hardest to keep switching the rules around, we are becoming frustrated from the changes. Many students now are beginning to break even more rules as new ones come along, I suppose. Children are getting so confused about this that they had enough. So to regain your respect and your students’ thoughtful behavior, please just lower down the levels of changes, O.K. If you do this for us, I reassure you that you will most likely regain your respect from your students.

A week after the teachers combined reading and writing classes, many of us have started to read a type of book. My class began reading The Cay. Before we started to read, many students in my class complained about reading the book again (some students have already read it ). But in the end, I was glad that the teachers chose this book for us to read. As we have read, we decided that the main objective for this story was about a boy and a man were trapped on a cay – also known as an island. I have learned that that is not what it’s really about, to me of course. I believe that it’s about the relationship that is being pulled together by a shipwreck and being stranded on a cay. During this book, there was a strong connection being built between two different races. You see, at first a boy named Phillip was angry with his mother for causing him to be stranded with a black man. But later on, they start to care for each other deeply – like family. Sadly though, Timothy (the black man) died during a storm on the cay. I really do like this book, so I do recommend it to the people who haven’t read it before. I thank Theodore Taylor for writing this extraordinary story. I give him thumbs up!!!

As you all may know, Saturday is Valentine’s Day. At the end of the school day on Friday, many are going to have an excellent time dancing!!! First off everyone continues their normal schedule. But before the dance, all classes are going to pass out cards for the special day. I know that that sounds dull and boring, but it’s really fun. Anyways, during the dance, whoever goes will be eating snacks, hanging out with their friends, and of course…dancing. I do hope that this will be an awesome dance because this is a rare time at school when we could do what we want. We still have to follow the rules, though. I do believe that many students will have an excellent time.
Happy Valentine’s Day!

I believe that many of us are anxious for President’s Day; I know I am. It is an exciting event to celebrating past presidents from years before. And a few years from now, we will be able to celebrate our first African-American president……….. Barack Obama! But to some of you, this is probably a boring event. But it really is amazing. Whoever thinks this is boring, you should actually try and enjoy it. Think about how you would make the past and present presidents feel; you would make them feel proud and happy with themselves. Last but not least….
Happy President’s Day!

As of today, I was helping with the science fair. But sadly a tragic event occurred. During most of the day, I was having a great time helping. When lunchtime came along, things got worse. You see, some of my friends and I were playing football, right. Then one of my friends (the name should be unspoken of) accidentally hit me on the head. All of a sudden, I became dizzy and confused at some point. Then it ended. You are probably thinking that that is it… well you’re wrong. After lunch, the other helpers and I had to go back to class until we were called again. When I finished all my work, I began to read my AR book. While I was reading, I started to tear up because (at first it was just my emotions) one of the characters in the book died. But I figured out that I started to feel nauseous and dizzy again. A second later I had to go back to help. When my partner and I went to go get the children, I felt even more ill. Then I got back to the library. My teacher noticed that I looked terrible, so she sent me to the nurse. After she took my temperature and everything, she called my mom to come pick me up. So I had to wait a full hour. When my mom finally arrived, she took me to the doctor to check on me. Fortunately, I was all right! So that was my boring story for the day – but for me, it was an emotional roller coaster ride.

For the past few weeks, I have learned plenty. As this “block” started, I had liked the readings of the book the class is reading, “The Cay”. Also, I have seen the deeper side of reading and writing. I have experienced that both classes have a lot in common. While we work on our morning activities, I can identify the relationships between the two subjects. First off, When we do our work, I can tell that ( for example: during DOL) we have to read the story and then decide what we have to correct for the correct grammar. During this entire time, I understood many more things than before by just having one teacher. Ms. Baker has helped me with many things I didn’t understand. That is why I like this new arrangement. And that is my experience of the new ” block”.

I don’t know why I’m saying this now, but…. I love Roadl Dahl!!! Ever since I read The BFG, I fell in love with his writing. I mean the descriptions, the tone, the imagery. As I read that certain book, I admired how he placed an image in my head, showing me the actions being taken place. I was so amazed how Roadl explained that the BFG collected dreams of many sorts. And the relationship between the orphan and the BFG. Wow!!! I was so happy, because in the end, the orphan and the BFG wrote a book together. And the book I’m talking about is this one. The BFG!!!!!
