   I think it’s awesome that you have such a strong connection to your great grandpa, and that you value the stories that he tells. Wouldn’t it be a wonderful tribute to him to publish one (or some) of his stories?

   By the way, did you take any pictures of the cabin & the snow in Mammoth, CA? Wouldn’t they look great hanging on our U.S. wall?? I think they would!

   I remember that day of fishing. We were actually at Rock Creek that first day and you and I were fortunate to find a hole just under the bank of the creek. The trucks had been there just an hour or so before to stock the creek and when we found this fishing hole, there appeared to be at least a hundred large rainbow trout resting in the unexpectedly calm waters (they must have gotten tired from swimming elsewhere in the creek where the waters were rushing). Each time we cast out our lines and let them drift down into the hole, we had a bite within seconds. SNAP! The fish gobbled up the fire-engine red salmon eggs we were using as bait and swallow them up with the hook included. We cast out, we reeled in a fish, we cast out, we reeled in a fish. This was the chain of events that occcurred throughout the morning. When you reeled in the fish, I remember saying to you, “That’s great! 5 fish Carrie!” You grinned back at me excitedly and chattered “Let’s go get some more!” “But Carrie, you’re done for the day.” I explained. “What!? What do you mean I’m done? I want to catch more fish!” “Honey,” I answered softly, “You’ve caught your limit. The state of California says you can only catch 5 fish a day.” I will never forget the look on your face! “Wha….huh….but I want to catch more!” It was extremely hard for you to accept that you were done…at least until the next day! However, in the true spirit of the sport, you then showed your little brother where the fishing hole was so that he too caught his limit!

   Look on Carrie’s face when she realizes she isn’t allowed to catch anymore fish for the day…PRICELESS!

   Hey Carrie,

   It is good to hear you had such a great time fishing. I know how exciting it is to go fishing when you are younger. You can ask your father abut us going fishing with our grandfather. He used to take us out in the bay. We would fish for salmon in the bay, and trout in the streams. We really did not care if we ever caught anything, it was just a fun time listening to our grandfathers stories. Well, gotta get back to work. Hope to see you all again next summer…..
