About 19 years ago I came into Edgemere Elementary as a timid first grader. I did not know anyone, and was clueless about the routines of this school. I walked into my class feeling a bit intimidated by the new faces that stared at me. I was quite fortunate though, I was welcomed into the class by my first grade teacher, Ms Cortez. She welcomed in all of her students and right away you felt you were a part of her class. I can honestly say all my teachers here at Edgmere were awesome teachers, each one so different, but each had something wonderful and unique to bring to the table. Even now as a college student at UTEP, I think back at my years at Edgemere and it brings a smile to my face. After 13 years, it is great to be back at Edgemere as an intern in a fourth grade class, and loving every minute of it. The students are great, and I am fortunate to have gotten a fantastic mentor-teacher. I can see that Edgmere still stands for excellence, and this school still has that warm welcoming feeling when you walk in through its doors.
