Mighty Oak

November 6th, 2008

Grey clouds were dancing above Shawna. Shawna is walking to an oak tree by the stream that her father owned. The dry oak tree leaves seemed to whisper as she walked by them, hands in her pockets.

She heard footsteps behind her. She walked faster. The footsteps got faster.

“What do you want?” she said, looking up at a tall, scrawny boy.

He had ginger, brownish hair that partly covered his eyes, which were ice-cold blue.

“Why are you following me?” she asked timidly, looking into his eyes.

“I need help, my car broke down,” he said in a voice that kind of sounded like a police siren.

“Okay, sure. I’ll try and help.” she said.

His small lips almost turned to a smile. “Follow me,” he said. “Hi, my name is Nick. My friends call me BC for some reason.” It started to drizzle, and he pulled an umbrella out from the backpack he had. “Here, take the umbrella, I’m fine.” Nick said.

“Thanks. -Do you have a– no I’ll go get mine,” Shawna dashed into her house and came out the next minute with her skateboard.

“My car didn’t crash, it just broke down and I just filled up the tank,” Nick screamed through the rain as it started to hail.

Just then a piece of hail about the size of a golf ball came out of the sky and hit Nick on the head.

“Nick! Nick! Are you okay??” Shawna screamed. “Nick? Nick??”

Will Nick be okay? Will he be alive? We will find out next time……….

I am sorry, I like to keep you guessing. But it’s your call, you respond to this post and tell me what you think. Will he live or survive?

Nature Owls Part=1

October 30th, 2008

A moonlight night, peeling the walls on the cave when suddenly, a bird shaped shadow blocked the light from all of its followers. Then a horrible screeching noise pierced the ears of all of the animals in the woods. EEEEECH! EECH! The owl ahead screeched looking for food to feast on. Its chestnut colored feathers and burnt orange beak glimmered in the sky as it faded into the foggy clouds. A summer aroma seemed to bounce off of each and every leaf on the forest green leaves.

FWEEEWW!! The owl has found its supper. A small snow colored mouse lept from a trap that almost got its tail. The owl sped like a bullet toward the mouse. And finally…. CRACK!! The owl breaks the mouces neck and the owl flies away with the mouse dangling from its beak. CRACKLE!! The owl lands in his nest finding a mother and five baby birds. It was practically a feast.

The next day, the father owl goes out for his next task, to greet the worms. (By greet, I mean eat.) The hill had lept a shadow over their prairie. The light peels the eyelids of animals, waking them slowly but surely. BABT! The owl finds the worm and lands on the damp, warm ground. The creek babbling in the distance. The owl looks up with the worm in its mouth and flies off, landing in its nest and feeding his young. And falling asleep after a long night of restless sleep…

The “Big” Jump (first published piece)

October 16th, 2008

Shll-BANG! “Wow! That is some slippery ice!” I said shocked. I remember the thick white fog that rolled across the ice skating stadium floor. Well, about fifteen minutes of pure torture, I stopped my skates, closed my eyes, poked myself very hard to just get out there and skate. So I did, it just took me forever.

So after I got a hold of it, I went to the middle of the rink, which led to a crack, which led to a ramp so tiny you could hardly see it. The next thing you know, I was about a foot in the air, eyes wide, heart thumping, face pale, and legs about another foot apart. When I landed, I felt as stiff as a rock. I could feel the cool breeze move around me and I heard well, the majority of the skates stop. Also when I landed, I felt like a little puppy shaking because it was going to the vet to get it’s shots. When I jumped up, it felt like it was playing in slow motion.

When I got home, I told my easily amused grandma and my very UN easily amused cousin. And they were shocked! Kind of…

It’s nice when…

October 2nd, 2008

“It’s nice when raindrops fall from the sky, It’s nice when baby birds learn to fly, it’s nice when mamas and papas are together,” Zenipha wrote in her poem journal. Zeniphia lived with her mom in Oklahoma. She was alone in her room when she heard a smooth guitar in the room next door. And what was that? “YUCK!! I HATE OPERA!!!!” She screamed in her pillow. she thought they were singing a familiar song. “That doesn’t matter!!! It’s disgusting!” She again, screamed in her pillow. Okay now, so Zenphia smelled the smooth steak grilling on the BBQ grill. She could hear the people laughing downstairs. She could see the beautiful American flag, its beautiful blue deep pools of freedom and bravery, with it’s even more deluxe stars in the background. “Red stripes white stripes, your such a delight.” She said eyes glowing in amazement at the flag. She fell asleep before dinner and she was so happy to find a plate of steaming steak in her room. She looked at the alarm clock to find a blur of numbers. She squinted trying to tell the difference between them. She noticed it was about 3:00 in the afternoon. She fell asleep after the wonderful buttery stake and ended up waking up the next morning for school. When she got home from school the next day, she saw a car in the driveway. She opened the door and there was her papa waiting right there for her in the doorway. “HEY MUNCHKIN!!!” He said happily. “I missed you so much papa! I can’t wait to tell you of all of the things I have been doing lateley!” That night was the best night a girl could have. She hadn’t seen her papa in two or three years. Again, “I love you papa…”

The names in this story have been changed and the location. Although, the mama and papa end up getting devorced again. I hope you enjoyed reading the story about my life…
